The film captures the raw, energetic atmosphere of Lithuania shortly after independence restoration, focusing on friendship, love, and life in a working-class neighborhood. The Southern Chronicles” follows the story of Rimantas (Džiugas Grinys), a 17-year-old living against the backdrop of Lithuania’s re-independence. As a free-spirited teenager who is interested in playing rugby and messing around with the black market, his future is put to the test when he falls in love with Monika (Digna Kulionytė), where he slowly begins to change the closer he gets. The film became a massive hit in Lithuania, attracting over 411,000 viewers, with critics calling it a "time machine" of the era. While the film takes place in the 1990s, the team utilized period authentic VHS cameras to create Rimantas’ world while balancing a small budget. RECOGNITION: The Southern Chronicles achieved a near clean-sweep at the 2025 Silver Crane Awards (Sidabrinė gervė), winning 12 awards including Best Film, Director (Ignas Miškinis), Actor (Džiugas Grinys), and Best Supporting Actress (Irena Sikorskytė). It was also recognized as the Best Baltic Film at the 2024 Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
