In the year 2000, nine cities were chosen in Europe to be "Cultural Capitals.” The European Cutural Capitals’ Youth Chorus, "Voices of Europe", consisted of 90 singers from 8 countries, ranging in age from 16 to 23. Eleven works were presented in the concert tour of 9 countries. One of the works that was presented — ".. Which Was the Son Of… "— was especially [commissioned from Arvo Pärt. The text is based on the Genealogy of Jesus from Luke 3:23–38, tracing his lineage back through Joseph to Adam and God. The composition uses a repetitive, polyphonic structure to highlight the, "...which was the son of..." phrasing, culminating in a multi-voiced finale. The film captures the rehearsals of this work and the premiere in Iceland.
